Biography
In 1983, the widely acclaimed vinyl album Another Victim was released on the Belgian label Mausoleum Records. In a very short time, AXE VICTIMS evolved into one of the most cult-status bands within the then-nascent and booming German hard rock scene.
The lineup consisted of:
Frank Fanfare – Vocals
Tom Bohn – Guitar
Rowland Hag – Guitar
Holger George – Bass
Martin Rocco – Drums
With this lineup, AXE VICTIMS played numerous festivals, toured with acts such as Lita Ford, and supported bands like Uli Roth and Golden Earring.
Their fan base grew, and AXE VICTIMS received rave reviews both at home and abroad. Specialist magazines—such as the UK’s Kerrang! and Germany’s Metal Hammer—praised the band and predicted a promising future. A highlight of their action-packed live show was the appearance of “The Executioner,” who would bring his massive axe crashing down amidst thunderous noise and magnesium flashes. Fans eagerly awaited the band’s second album.
Unfortunately, during this period, AXE VICTIMS—like many of their peers—were defrauded by the Belgian label Mausoleum. The company filed for bankruptcy some time later, having previously enriched itself at the expense of several bands.
AXE VICTIMS produced their second album themselves, determined not to place it with another small label like Mausoleum; the band wanted to avoid such negative experiences in the future. However, time slipped away while they searched for a major label deal; consequently, without ever releasing the second production, AXE VICTIMS missed the chance to capitalize on the momentum of their successful debut.
This second album—recorded in Wuppertal in 1984/85 and mixed by Glenn “Pico” Porconi at Hermes Studio in Kamen—has remained unreleased to this day, even though its quality was on par with that of the first album. One can certainly clearly trace the musical and production-related evolution of the band Axe Victims.
