Biography

Epic power doom outfit SMOULDER has taken true metal to soaring new heights, and they have no plans of slowing down. Shortly after the release of “The Sword Woman” demo in 2018, the band was invited to play their first European show at Hammer Of Doom XIII in Germany. There, they were approached by Cruz Del Sur label head Enrico Leccese, who cemented their partnership for the release of their debut full-length, “Times Of Obscene Evil Snd Wild Daring” (2018). The explosive debut has sold more than 15k worldwide, and is currently on its sixth vinyl press.

With their eyes firmly fixed on the future, SMOULDER released their follow-up EP “Dream Quest Ends” in March 2020. The original 1000 run of vinyl sold out months before release, triggering an an additional 500 press. Scheduled to coincide with numerous gigs in Greece, Germany, Canada and the USA, the band’s tour was sidelined by the pandemic. Instead, they set to work on their sophomore album, which materialized as 2023’s “Violent Creed Of Vengeance”.

Recorded in July 2022 at Soundwell Studios in Helsinki (where the band is now located), with artwork once more by legendary fantasy painter Michael Whelan, the album also features original narration by world renowned fantasy author Michael Moorcock (who has similarly worked with Blue Öyster Cult and Hawkwind). “Violent Creed Of Vengeance” is SMOULDER’S strongest effort yet, receiving rave reviews worldwide, alongside a lauded spot on Decibel Magazine’s Best Metal Albums of 2023 list. Its release coincided with two back-to-back shows at Germany’s premier underground metal festival Keep It True on April 19th and 20th. With additional festival appearances in the Czech Republic, Poland, and France, 2023 proved to be SMOULDER’S busiest yet. Topped off with a two week tour of Europe through Denmark, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Austria, and the Netherlands, SMOULDER have sharpened their live performance to a deadly point.

SMOULDER crushed 2024 with multiple festival appearances including: Steel Held High, Hell Over Hammaburg, Metalheadz Open Air, Courts Of Chaos, Burning Q, Hellbotn Metalfest, Summer Dying Loud, and the successful compeltion of the “From Violent Shores” tour, with label mates Gatekeeper. There are no plans to slow down in 2025 – SMOULDER will continue to bring their Sword-Swinging-Arcane-Power-Doom to stages across Europe.
