Biography

Tungsten is a powerhouse in the Scandinavian metal scene. The band was formed in 2016 when drummer Anders Johansson’s sons, Karl and Nick, started writing songs together. After hearing their work, Anders suggested that they record the tracks as a band. With a shared passion for creating heavy yet melodic metal, they brought in vocalist Mike Andersson, and Tungsten was born.

The lineup consists of Anders Johansson (drums), Nick Johansson (guitar), Karl Johansson (bass), and Mike Andersson (vocals). Their music blends elements of traditional heavy metal, power metal, progressive metal, and Swedish folk influences, giving them a unique sound that sets them apart. Each member brings their own flavor to the mix, creating a dynamic and engaging musical experience.

Tungsten made their mark in 2019 with their debut album, We Will Rise, which was praised for its impressive musicianship, thoughtful lyrics, and seamless blend of heavy and melodic elements. The track The Fairies Dance quickly became a fan favorite and a modern classic. Since then, the band has continued to push their sound forward with Tundra(2020) and Bliss (2022), showcasing their evolution and growth as both a band and musicians.

Renowned for their energetic live performances, Tungsten has built a dedicated fanbase. They have played major metal festivals such as, Skogsröjet, Time To Rock, and Sweden Rock Festival. In March 2023, they toured Europe with BloodBound, further solidifying their presence on the international metal scene.

On November 8, 2024, their fourth album, The Grand Inferno, was released via the German label Reigning Phoenix Music GmbH. Songs such as Lullaby, Blood of the Kings, and the title track The Grand Inferno gained widespread attention within the metal community. Just before its release, Tungsten toured Scandinavia with Finnish metal legends Sonata Arctica.

In early 2025, they were invited as special guests for Manowar’s show at Cirkus in Stockholm, marking another milestone in their career. Tungsten also performed at numerous festivals across Europe, including Midalidare Metal Fest in Bulgaria, Leyendas del Rock in Spain, and Riverside Rock Fest in Switzerland, as well as several other festivals in Sweden and Germany.

In October 2025, Tungsten joined the Battle of Metal Tour in Europe as special guests alongside All For Metal and Grailknights. In July 2026, Tungsten delivered a highly praised live performance at the mighty German festival Rockharz.

In 2026, Tungsten will release their fifth album, Ashes, which is set to be released on October 9, 2026. In October 2026, Tungsten will follow up the new album with their first headlining tour, mainly in Germany, but also including cities in Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, and Norway.

With their relentless drive, genre-blending sound, and passion for heavy music, Tungsten continues to make waves in the global metal scene, bridging the past and future of metal with every new release.
