Biography

Schizo are one of the historic formations of the Italian extreme metal scene. Founded in Catania in 1984 by Alberto Penzin and S.B. Reder, they established themselves from the very beginning as one of the most radical and distinctive acts in the national underground, building a cult status over the years that extends well beyond Italy’s borders.

After the band’s early phase and subsequent lineup changes, Schizo returned to activity in 2005 with a lineup featuring Alberto Penzin, S.B. Reder, Nicola Accurso on vocals, and Dario Casabona on drums. This comeback marked the beginning of a new chapter for the band, bringing the name Schizo back into the studio and onto the stage with renewed consistency.

Over the years, the lineup continued to evolve while preserving the band’s core sound and original attitude. As of 2026, the lineup consists of S.B. Reder on guitar, Tony Grave on vocals, Patrizio “Pat” Pappalardo on drums—previously a member of Schizo from 1991 to 1995 and later rejoining the band—and Lorenzo Scandurra, aka Melkør, on bass, who is also the vocalist and bassist of Criminal Hate.
